Because this green and blue wool twill with a diamond weave is made entirely of pure wool, it brings you all of the benefits of this wonderful natural fiber: It is warm but breathable, it keeps you warm even when it’s wet, it has wonderful self-cleaning properties, and it is entirely biodegradable, so when it reaches the end of its life cycle, it can be discarded without harming the planet.
This midweight wool fabric is a good choice for a winter blazer or skirt. It is not a winter-weight wool coating, however, so if you choose to use it for an overcoat, the result will be better suited to face the elements in autumn or spring. Made of pure wool, this fabric is also suitable for historical costuming; the diamond weave was not as common as plain weaves or ordinary twills, so this fabric is better suited for clothing characters of higher social standing. This fabric has a moderate drape (trousers or skirts made of it will hang well) but it takes pressed folds, pleats, and darts well. It’s a good idea to pre-shrink this fabric with a steam iron before sewing. To ensure you preserve the benefits of wool, choose a quality lining that breathes, such as silk twill (serge).
We recommend dry cleaning this wool fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. You may hand wash or machine wash using the woolens program; use a special detergent for woolens; wash at a low temperature (30°C) with the spin cycle switched off. Do not wash on your machine’s default program and do not use your usual detergent; doing so can cause the fabric to shrink by 30% and thicken significantly. Wool garments do not need to be ironed; simply hang on a good hanger while damp to dry. When sewing, press on the back side using your iron’s wool setting.
If we recommend pre-shrinking the fabric before sewing we usually say so in the product description. Let the recommended care notes in the fabric description be your guide – they will tell you if the fabric can be washed or steam ironed. Woolen fabrics are usually pre-shrunk by steaming from the back. Some fabrics should be dry cleaned only. For larger projects or more expensive fabrics, we recommend testing anything (washing, ironing, etc.) on a sample. Wool is a natural material and is never absolutely predictable.
Most of our fabrics are one-time offers that last until they are sold out. However, some more popular items are always restocked or can be ordered on request. As a rule, this applies to notions, where the selection is pretty consistent, but may also include some types of fabric. Look at the product's availability value – it shows whether the goods are available while supplies last, in the core inventory or in a seasonal collection.
