This silk ribbon with a traditional brocade pattern is made of 100% natural silk. It is soft and supple, with the magical sheen that you’ll only find with real silk.
Brocade ribbons like this one, usually with intricate floral patterns, were de rigueur in folk costumes in many parts of Europe (see our article on Bohemian kroj). They were tied around the waist, arranged as part of a head dress, or sewn on as decorative trim around bodices and vests. The look-alike polyester ribbons now available on the market are stiff and awkward in comparison and cannot be tied into such pretty bows or even used effectively as trim. Modern mechanized production simply does not have the capacity to turn out brocade ribbons as soft and supple as those produced historically on shuttle looms. That’s why we decided to turn to our own weavers to reproduce these beautiful silk ribbons using traditional methods, and the results were gorgeous! The ribbons are soft, supple, and absolutely beautiful in real 100% silk.
We offer this ribbon in two variations. It comes as a classic ribbon with a reinforced edge or in an embroidery version where the pattern wefts are cut and the edges of the ribbon have to be stitched to secure them. Of course, these ribbons are hand woven, which may result in minor imperfections – these beauty marks are the result of hand crafting, not a defect. Just like in the old days.
Our floral pattern is a reproduction based on ribbons from the bodice (lajblik) of a southern Moravian folk costume.

The goods in the seasonal collection come directly from our verified manufacturers. We change up the colors on offer from season to season but fabric quality is always constant. For large (wholesale) orders, colors that have been sold out can be reordered individually.

Fertoch, jupka, kandus, rozplasenka, serka! When we talk about traditional folk costumes – “kroj” in Bohemia (or Silesia, Moravia, and Slovakia for that matter) it means grappling with a whole new vocabulary.
